Creating a home gym for your personal fitness program is a great idea particularly if you are determined to get into better shape. A home gym motivates you to get the workout you need for optimal health and fitness. Sticking to an exercise routine (when you have a home gym) means you don’t have to worry about maintain a gym membership or even leaving the house to work out.
Everyone likes to have different home gym fitness equipment. You should only buy the equipment that is right for you, not for everyone else. And it does not have to cost an arm and a leg. Here are some basic tips to keep in mind for your home gym:
Make sure you have enough space to work out and keep your equipment. A lot of people end up setting up a home gym in their basements because that is where they have the most room. Remember, you don’t only need room for the equipment itself. You also need room to stretch and do exercise tapes and have a television for those tapes, etc.
You might also want to invest in some weights (dumbbells) because they are a great, simple way to get started on your resistance training. Another great space save is a chin up bar, which can be placed in almost any doorway. This way you can do pushups on the floor and chinups in the doorway. Both are great, basic but very effective exercises that will keep you very fit.
Speaking of basic but effective exercise, don’t forget to get a jump rope. Jumping rope is excellent aerobic exercise. (That’s one reason it is such a vital part of any boxer’s training regimen). If you are not a fan of running, jumping rope is very effective for cardio. Of course, if you have space and the budget for it, you will also want to invest in a treadmill or an elliptical machine. But never underestimate the cardio power of a simple jump rope.
