Treadmills and Elliptical Machines

In addition to choosing free weights and/or a resistance training machine for your home gym fitness equipment, you may also want to consider purchasing a piece of equipment for your home gym that targets cardio activity, such as a treadmill or an elliptical machine.
As is the case with buying other sorts of equipment for your home gym, you will want to purchase your cardio equipment (such as a treadmill or an elliptical) from a well regarded retailer. (You may also want to purchase a name brand to ensure that you can get a warranty and reliable customer service.)
Of course your decision about whether or not you want to add a treadmill or an elliptical trainer to your home gym will depend upon a few different factors. How much space do you have in your home gym? Do you have room for your weights and/or resistance machine as well as a treadmill or elliptical machine (either of which takes up a considerable amount of space)?
Also ask yourself the following question: Do you strongly prefer to do other types of non-machine-based cardio exercise, such as aerobics or swimming? In other words, if you do in fact buy a treadmill or an elliptical trainer, will you truly use it or will you just keep doing your preferred forms of cardio exercise, whatever they may be? (These pieces of equipment can be quite expensive, after all.)
Speaking of the cost, you will definitely want to try out both treadmills and elliptical machines before you make any purchasing decisions. In addition, elliptical machines are known to be “lower impact” than treadmills, so this may be yet another factor for you to consider when making your choice.
One of the best parts of creating your own home gym is that you do not have to buy everything all at once. You can buy one piece of equipment at a time and build up your gym bit by bit, as both space and your bank account permit. In other words, there are no specific rules and nothing is set in stone. You can also get pretty good ideas from friends who have also designed their own home gyms. Take a look at how they have laid everything out and what kinds of equipment they have chosen. You certainly don’t have to use the exact same home gym fitness equipment that one or more of your friends use, but you can test out their equipment, ask them for their honest and detailed opinions of it, and see if you like the way any of their gym equipment feels when you use it yourself.
