When you make the decision to do the bulk of your working out at home rather than at the gym, it’s essential to make a serious commitment to yourself. After all, you are well worth the time and the effort, and you will only get out of your home workouts what you put into them.

These means that soon after you establish an exercise baseline for yourself, you need to be ready to challenge yourself by gradually increasing the amount of weight you are lifting and the number of reps you are doing with each exercise. This, after all, is how you build lean muscle, lose fat, speed up your metabolism, and eventually get into the kind of shape you have always wanted to be in.

Don’t push yourself too hard, but don’t be too lax with yourself either. As they say, slow and steady wins the race. You definitely don’t want to strain or hurt yourself in any way, because if you get injured using your home gym equipment then you won’t be able to work out for a while, which of course would defeat the whole purpose of investing in home gym fitness equipment in the first place.

Always be sure to warm up first, stretching all of your major muscle groups before you use your exercise equipment. When your muscles are properly warmed up, you are much less likely to hurt yourself during your home gym workout. And don’t forget that cooling down once you have completed your workout is just as important as warming up your muscles beforehand.

Do whatever you need to do to get motivated and stay motivated before and during your workouts. For instance, if playing loud music gets you pumped up and ready for a great workout, be sure to play some loud music before and during your workouts using your home gym fitness equipment. You know best what motivates you and gets you all pumped up to exercise, so do whatever it is you need to do to get into the right “head space” prior to your workout in order to get the most out of it.

Most important of all, set specific personal workout goals for yourself. You may even want to write these goals down so that you can see how closely you are sticking to them over the course of time. People who establish (and then work very hard to achieve) their own personal fitness goals often report having a greater overall success rate than their counterparts who do not set such goals. (This is true regardless of whether you do the bulk of your exercising using your home gym fitness equipment or outside of your home.)
